canvas bags by Slow and Steady Wins the Race

What is Slow and Steady Wins the Race? “The mission of the label is to push and produce interesting and significant pieces from the simplest and most inexpensive fabrics and materials.” The bags are what immediately caught my eye. “The bags are based on the modern-day iconic handbag and are all executed in plain cotton muslin or canvas twill and then distilled to the sparest details of hardware and shape to identify it with its original. Through this process, the hi- fashion designer bag becomes a lo-fi object sketch and consequently an alternate icon of itself.” They still look cool, if not cooler, in a raw natural state. The bags have an understated - chic feel. It says: “I’m not trying too hard, but I still have an appreciation for design.” I applaud the effort, and would absolutely carry one of these canvas bags. Would you?

The Girls in the North are not about to put away their fabulous dresses and skirts just because Winter is on the way. We’re seeing dark opaque tights under everything. The black tight for Winter has become the nude leg of the Summer. It’s a base, to highlight the outfit. It’s not necessarily meant to be a focal point. So, don’t go too crazy on the tights. Keep it simple, clean, and modern.

Style that looks effortless is the most intriguing style of all. By effortless, I don’t mean look like you didn’t try at all. The idea is to look pulled together without looking like you’re trying too hard. To achieve this - keep the major pieces understated, but rich in structure and design. Pay attention to the tailoring; it should fit beautifully. The Miu Miu jacket has a frilled waist which adds a feminine touch, yet it’s understated in it’s color and fabric. The beauty is in the design. Choose colors that are basic, and can mix well into your wardrobe. You want the ability to create a lot of different looks with the same pieces. An off-white silk blouse can work its way into a million different outfits. A great pair of jeans - a must- of course. Accessories can be a bit more bold, if you want to amp it up. A python bag pops perfectly on a neutral backdrop. This style is one of my favorites, people notice the woman instead of the outfit. That’s ideal!

We’ve all seen the celebrities wearing baggy “boyfriend” jeans lately. The question is, have they done it well? For the most part, they could have done it better. The celebs I’ve seen wearing the trend, got it wrong by pairing it with a loose cardigan and tee. The look fell flat, and looked frumpy. In order to get this look right, you need to pay attention to proportion. Since you’re baggy on the bottom, you want to stay fitted and feminine on top. The truth is, there is something so sexy about pulling on your boyfriend’s jeans after spending a night in his arms. And … I’ll be honest, if my boyfriend looked like one of these guys I would gladly wear his jeans. It’s all about hanging on to the moment, basking in the after-glow of love. I’m guessing there is a necessary element to this look that only some of us will have. The rest of us will simply have to fake it, or remember when we felt it!

The simple black dress goes more modern with a peak of color, and a bit of detail. It’s not overdone, it’s done in a simple way to enhance the beauty of the design. This is a dress people will notice, and you won’t get lost in a sea of basic black dresses. It’s speaks to elegance. So, you’ll want to keep accessories simple. Let the dress be the centerpiece, making you the focal point. It says you’re present in what’s happening now, and you move forward with the times.

Summer fashion is all about ease, comfort, and uncomplicated style. The last thing you want to do on a hot day is wear layers of clothing. That’s precisely why The Ella Moss Collection works so well during the summer months. It’s a collection that is virtually fuss-free. You can literally throw one of her dresses on with sandals, a straw bag, and be out the door. There is very little closet time required to make the pieces work, they just do. The shapes are simple, wearable, and accessible to almost all body types. The fabric is ultra soft, feels gentle on the skin, and moves beautifully with the body. The designs are feminine in a truly modern way, allowing women the freedom and flexibility they need to run around all day long, and still look great. This summer, don’t sweat it, go with the effortless fashions of Ella Moss.
