Dallas – NYC – Nantucket

going home

I’m going home to New York tomorrow. It will be the first time my boys go back since we moved to Dallas.

I will always consider New York my home. That’s where I grew up, where my Mom is, and where my Dad is buried. It’s in my blood.

Don’t get me wrong, I love living in Dallas. Dallas is so peaceful compared to our life in New York, I’m SO glad we moved here. Turns out, visiting NY is much more fun! You get to enjoy the city, the chaos, the restaurants, the crowds, shop, and then get the heck out of there!

nantucket circa 1992

The Summer after my father died we took our first trip to Nantucket. Back then, I was still in college, only two sisters were married, and there weren’t even any little ones running around yet. For most of the time, it was just the five girls.

Now when we go, it’s an absolute entourage. Between the four girls, we have 12 children. They range in age from 17 to 7, it’s insane!

I love to watch the older ones take care of the younger ones, and the younger ones try to annoy the teenagers.

One of my favorite stories…

My 5 year old came rushing through the door, and announced to me, my Mom, and my sisters …

Paul’s girlfriend dumped him in a text message

Then he proceeded to spend the rest of the trip razzing Paul that he had been “dumped”. Seriously…? It’s usually a ton of fun, a few fights, and a couple of tears. What do you expect, that’s family.

I recognized some of the clothes/etc. you were packing from previous blog articles! Have fun on your trip!

Being an Indiana girl, I dreamed of working in New York. Someplace out east where I can jet off to Paris… maybe someday, in a few years and with some hard work (like getting my MBA!), I'll get there!

New York is awesome. I guess it was just time for me to move on. After a while, it can start to wear on you. I lived there for 37 years. I need to chill for awhile, but you're young .. you would love it!

Ah, Nantucket in August vs. Dallas in August – no contest! That is when my family always went to escape the summer heat in Texas (when we weren't at the Finger Lakes.) Enjoy the wonderful vacation and family time! Can't wait to see what you buy!
