boat shoes – from boring to bright

boat shoes - from boring to bright

Once upon a time

In my day, they were called “top siders”. I always considered them boring prepster shoes, reserved for the kids who wore wrinkled izod shirts and bermuda shorts. The look was sloppy, as if they couldn’t even be bothered to put there foot completely in the shoe. You know… like a mule. I can still hear the annoying “hotshot” dragging his feet down the hall. CRINGE! Needless to say, it wasn’t my favorite look.

The new improved top sider is much more fun. You can get them in brilliant colors, and patterns. What once looked like an old man’s shoe, is now sporty and fun. I might be able to see myself running around the cobblestone streets of Nantucket wearing a pair. IF I can get past my high-school flashbacks.

Would you wear boat shoes? Or are they still reserved for the prepster?

I wore these shoes in junior high high school, but usually with jeans or with my oh-so-cool Jams. Sometimes with an Izod/Polo but often with one of my Esprit blouse/vest combos.

When it comes to deck shoes, I can't go home again. The update is very fresh and cute, but not my style.

I hear ya! I think they're cute, but NOT happening for me.

I love them and am all for a “top-sider” comeback, though they are “Sperry's” to me. They are super easy to wear…and if you haven't gotten to the spa in a while, they are a much more practical option than flip-flops.
