from holiday hip to black tie bash

It was a weekend full of Holiday parties.
Friday night we went to Clarice Tinsley’s house for a cocktail party. As we walked through the doors, The Booker T. Washington HSPVA Choir was singing the most beautiful carols. The music set the tone for the evening, it was lovely.

On the invitation, the dress code said – Holiday Hip. So, how could I possibly go without some sequins? I picked the Joie sequin jacket, paired with velvet leggings, and a long silk tank. The layered gun metal necklace was just enough to bring a modern edge.

Saturday night, we were invited to The Crystal Charity Ball. The theme this year was 007. The event was over the top to say the least. There were gambling tables, a car raffled off, real gold painted women on pedestals, a Tiffany present for each woman to take home, and Sheena Easton was the entertainment! YEP…

Strut, pout, put it out, that’s what you want from women. Come on baby, what’cha taking me for?
Strut pout, cut it out, all taking and no giving. Watch me baby while I walk out the door

It was certainly a party!

From the minute I walked in, I realized something was VERY different. At an event like this is NYC, it would be a sea of black dresses. In Dallas … it was color, color, color!! For the most part, the women looked lovely. Beautiful dresses in red, blue, purple, and pink. They brought out all the jewels, Texas style. These ladies had jewelry that put Wilma Flinstone to shame. Giant jewels, and REAL.

It’s no surprise that I chose a black dress. It was a lace and satin dress, topped off with a Gilles Montezin jacket. I wore simple pearls. The dress had enough going on, I didn’t want to distract with too much jewelry. It was an extravagant night, and we had a blast! I may have to consider a color next year…
