fragrant growth

Prada Fragrance

When I was younger, I used to wear perfume that I thought would appeal to other people ( mostly men). I searched and searched for a fragrance that embodied the woman I wanted to be. Looking back, I realize how tragic that really is. The truth is, I don’t even like most perfumes. A lot of them give me a headache, and I never found one that I loved smelling on my own skin.

attitude

Somewhere along the line my attitude changed. I stopped looking for the perfume that would make me attractive to others. In fact, I stopped wearing perfume all together. Until I came across one that I loved to smell. Crazy … I know!

interest

I’m just no longer interested in what others think my scent reflects. I think that’s a sign of getting older, maturing, and being comfortable in your own skin. Not only does that translate to fragrance choice, but style as well. Some people dread getting older, I used to be one of those people. Now, I can’t help but love the process. There’s such power in the revelation that you can be and love yourself, regardless of what anyone else thinks. Refreshing!

my pick

The Prada fragrances are my favorite. I have a Summer one (Infusion D’Iris) that’s more clean smelling. It reminds of the feeling you get when you just get out of the shower. I also have a Winter one (L’eau Ambree). It reminds me of sipping a hot coffee after walking through the streets of New York on a cold night.

I loved Clinique Simply but it was discontinued – alas! Am still searching for a new signatue scent. I've been trying a few Jo Malone scents, but nothing jumps out at me.

    Merry Christmas!

I'm not a fan of fragrances you would smell and label as “perfume”, old lady musky things. I like simple uplifting fragrances that make me smile when I sniff my wrist. I keep several in rotation, so I have something to wear that fits the setting and mood. My favorites are Pacifica Malibu Lemon Blossom, L'Occitane Bergamot Tea, and Bath & Bodworks Sensual Amber.

  4. I hate when they discontinue! Jo Malone – some of them are refreshing .. like the grapefruit scent. When it first goes on .. it's way too much. It calms down nicely.
