It is certainly not an easy task to find a nice Prom dress these days. I’m always amazed at how lousy the options are. I started my hunt to help a friend who has a daughter going to the Prom. The first mistake I made was clicking on the “Prom” section in the dress category. That immediately took me the cheesiest dresses on the website. Yikes! The fabrics were horrendous, and the designs were cheap. So, what’s a young girl to do? You’re going to have to try on dresses, dresses, and more dresses. I have a few tips to help you navigate.

TIPS

  • Stay away from the “Prom” section.
  • Check out brands like BCBG, Laundry, ABS, and J.Crew.
  • Keep it youthful and fun.
  • Vibrant Color or Bold Print.
  • Accessories will depend on the simplicity of the dress.
  • Don’t over – do the make-up.
  • Look polished and pretty NOT trashy.

      I think short dresses for prom look so young and fresh – great picks! I wore long for my junior prom and short for my senior – I think the short dresses look so much better in photos. Again, so much more fresh. Why should an 18 year old girl try/want to look 35+?

      I agree, there is such a rush to be older when you're in high school. Then when you actually are 30 – you wish you were 20 … UGH – the grass is always greener! Love the short for prom!

      I wouldn't wear any of these for prom. Prom is a time to get dressed up and look glamorous. These dresses are more fit for a prom after party. Jessica McClintock has short dresses that I think are more suited for prom.
