my picks from People’s most beautiful list 2009.
People’s 100 most beautiful people list is out, and there are really no surprises. Every year it’s usually the same people that appear on the list. Quite frankly, I’m bored. For the most part, It’s a Hollywood popularity contest. Yawn! I think they could consider expanding the list a little. Consider accomplishments, or discoveries. Anyway, I went through the list and picked only two that I was happy to see there.
Christina Applegate
First, Christina Applegate was picked as the most beautiful person of the year. That… makes me smile. She had an incredibly tough year fighting breast cancer. It’s a disease most women fear they will someday face. On the outside, she did it with courage. According to the article “she had “a roller coaster of emotions, but there was a calm about what I had to do.” The Samantha Who? actress, 37, underwent a double mastectomy, followed by reconstructive surgery. “It’s a decision that you made to save your life,” she says, noting one positive effect: “I don’t have to wear a bra! They don’t hang down to my knees like they did before. And the gals look good in tank tops.” I admire that she went through all that (in the public eye) and can still have a sense of humor.
Michelle Obama
The second person I was glad to see on the list was Michelle Obama. She has had an incredible year, and is an inspiration to so many. Her public persona is elegant, and down-to-earth. There is a warmth about her that we all feel. She takes all the press (positive & negative) in stride.
Who would you choose, and why?
