Grey Gardens inspired style

Grey Gardens

I fall in love with the fashions of the 30′s & 40′s every time I see it. I love watching films that depict that period.

Last night, I watched Grey Gardens, starring Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore. It’s basically a “rags to riches” story about Edith Ewing Bouvier Beale and her daughter Edith Bouvier Beale. We watch as these two women go from high-society to living in squalor. They are nearly evicted from their home, until Jackie Kennedy Onassis saves the day. Jackie is the niece of “Big Edie” and first cousin of “little Edie”. She and her sister Lee stepped in to help the ladies fix the house. The story is absolutely wacky, and gets increasingly so once it dawns on you that it’s actually a true story.

The movie grabbed me from the very start. The style, fashion, and lifestyle intrigued me. Women were always so well dressed back then. The quality of their everyday clothing seems so superior to ours today. Why is that?
I was inspired by “little Edie’s” fashion in the beginning of the movie. Drew Barrymore did an amazing job in this role, she literally became Edie Bouvier Beale. If you haven’t seen it, it’s worth it!

interesting, there’s indeed a big difference in today’s women’s fashion (lifestyle in general) compared to those of the 30′s and 40′s.
