roller rink fever

roller rink fever

An evening at the Roller Rink was more than a ten year old could ask for back in the eighties. It felt like you were hanging with the “cool kids”, skating to the latest dance music. It was the only chance we had to ‘bump’ into boys from school, and do some innocent flirting.
“I think he likes you – he keeps staring at you!” She said
“No way! He just dumped popcorn on my head and then tripped me. Really – though- you think?” I said with butterflies in my stomach.
Round and round the rink we went, learning quickly the proverbial dance of courtship and conquest. It was like we were flying, a rush and excitement that was all new.
Xanadu
A million lights are dancing
And there you are
A shooting star
An everlasting world
And you’re here with me
Eternally
Xanadu, Xanadu,
(now we are here)
In Xanadu

Little did we all know that the circles we were skating would ultimately resemble the inevitable mind games that men and women play all through adulthood. Well, there’s nothing like the first flirtation. It makes me want to go out and buy a pair of roller skates RIGHT NOW! Have a good weekend…. and flirt a little just for fun.

I LOVED my roller skates! I went rollerskating religiously, every weekend. Which explains how I kept my lower body in decent shape in my teens ;-)

I bought a pair of rollerblades four years ago, but I just could never get into them.

I loved my roller skates too! I could NOT get the whole roller blade thing – liked skates much better.
