So, when did the price of a good tee go from being about $20 bucks to closer to $65-80? I think I could understand it if the t-shirt was made of such exceptional cotton that you could wear for more than a season. The cotton of choice these days is not much thicker than tissue paper, making it impossible to wear alone. So now, the price just went up $40-$50 dollars, because you’ll need to buy a tank to go underneath. Really? $120 for a tee and tank combo shirt? I’m slightly horrified by that number. Sure, the fit of the classic white tee has improved. It’s no longer a boxy boy t-shirt, but one that’s specifically made for a woman. I still don’t think it’s worth the price. Do you? How do you feel about paying around $100 for a t-shirt? And please let me know if any of you are “in the know” on where to get good t-shirts for less money. I’m anxious to hear your feedback!

      I totally agree. It seems that the quality went down and the prices went up, even for “nothing special” t-shirts. So I have been getting my every-day t-shirts from low-budget designer lines like those at Target and to a lesser degree, Kohls (because I HATE shopping at Kohls, it's dark and messy and unattractive). The tees from the Converse line are pretty good, especially considering the very afforadable price.

      I just discussed this with my friends this weekend. The price is going through the roof! I love my J. Crew tees, and when I find them at the outlet at special prices, I stock up! Of course, I love Perse and C&C, but I just can't justify.

      I can't justify it either – because I'm wearing t-shirts to be with kids & to hang around. So, it seems like a waste. I will say-my issue is that I like my tees longer. I hate for my stomach to show. So, I have a harder time finder them. I'm going to try the J. Crew ones though.

      They make a tissue-tee and regular tees…I have some tissue, but the regular-weight ones ARE long enough!

      Funny thing is, really good quality tees cost quite a bit _less_ than those trendy tissue-thin ones!

      A Petit Bateau tank is $30 (or $24 on sale atm) and they're really good quality, so they do last more than one season. The ones I bought in Noumea in 2005 are only just wearing out now… but still fine to wear under something else!

      Even their long-sleeve tees run to $50-60, which is still pricey for a tee, but not so bad on cost-per-wear. Oh, and most of them have a super-flattering cut.

      All that said, I still buy most of my tees at Target. Some of them do wear out quickly, but ironically my longest-lived tank actually came from there: I thrifted it in 2004 and it still looks new!
