are you in the harem?

Leave a response ->

Really edgy or really wrong? I’m suddenly seeing MC Hammer dancing around the room and…” you can’t touch this – wha-wha-whao – you can’t touch this…”. Please don’t hurt ‘em, Hammer.
I will admit, I can see Sienna Miller types pulling these off brilliantly. So… what’s the verdict? Will you be wearing the Harem pant?

i've been wearing sarouel pants since about 5 years ago when i bought my first one from comme des garcons. when i was living in tokyo, people were wearing them long before the rest of the world caught on! i'm hooked! i make my own now and wear them all the time. i even started selling them recently, after wearing a pair of black sequined ones to the july 4th party and received 5 orders that day itself. i love them!!

    2. See… I knew there were people who could rock the look! Where do you sell them?

i saw a lady wearing some the other day and she looked amazing .. very edgy and stylish.. but i think it depends on the person.. average woman on the street will look ridiculous.. must have European flair, small butt and thighs, and serious attitude to ignore all laughs you may recieve

    4. I agree. It's odd that you have to be skinny to wear baggy pants – but I think you're right. Otherwise, they would balloon beyond belief.

    5. barchbo says:

My eyes! My eyes! I can't touch these. No. They will be unflattering on the vast majority of women, making extra fabric looking like extra flesh.

      (But they look comfortable.)

    6. Krista says:

They are hideous! But I would totally wear the pair in the middle and rock them!

      No.
      No, no, no, no, no.
Really, no. I think they are possibly the ugliest thing to surface in the past two years, and that is including the comeback of ugly 80s fashion. Yikes.

What's really funny is that in a lot of places in the Middle East these “harem pants” (or saraweel) are worn by farmers, or those who live in villages… they're viewed as things of the lower classes.

      Weird how fashion is distorted.

omgosh that middle pant is definitely Hammer-style. However the one in the upper right hand corner looks very similar to the pair I used to wear back in 8th grade (circa 1988). I was much thinner then…and you know what I look like, so I don't think I could pull it off it I tried. ;)

    10. Don't sell yourself short! You could rock them as long as you accentuated your waist.

    11. Good God. These were wretched in the 80's and I took a pass on them then. So there's no way you're getting me in them this time. No way. No how.

Having said that, I love seeing people pull bizarre looks off with aplomb. It takes confidence more than anything else to pull off a silhouette like this.

By the way, I finally got around to wearing a pair of Grease-esque leather looking skin-tight pants today (they were a hot topic a few months ago). I paired it with a long, oversized cardigan with a big black patent belt and low-heeled, knee-high, patent boots and I look amazing.

Hmmm. I was going to say “Hell to the no” but I looked through some comments and might reconsider. At least reconsider them on other people – the 15 extra pounds I carry on my thighs and bum would make these a no-go for me. But I'm going to give them another shot. I saw them a lot in France last summer but just couldn't buy in to the trend…
