mirrors in the dressing room – what’s the deal?

Leave a response ->

It’s hard work going through the racks trying to find pieces that you think will look good on you. You finally make your way to the back of the store, and are excited to see what pieces actually work well…on. Your excitement immediately turns to dread when you walk into the dressing room only to find that there are no mirrors in there. Ugh … Now you have to come outside the dressing room every time you want to assess your selection. No doubt, the salesperson is waiting for you to tell you how good the potato sack looks on you. Guess what? Most of us hate it! We hate that you don’t give us the privacy to decide what works for us on our own. Yesterday, I heard a girl say she leaves the store once she finds out there are no mirrors in the dressing room. So, why do retailers do it? Is it some ploy to get us to buy things we don’t necessarily look good in? Or is it simply to torture us? It certainly seems like torture for most of us. So… enlighten me, why?

  • While showing @ a brooklyn showroom 8 yrs ago I asked the same question the answer, simple sales manship(?) Sales persons are actually able to affect sales they walk the hesitant customer through acceptance (hence those closet fullof un-worn clothes!)

    thats a very good question, I am the same way it's like stop give some privacy! because every time you walk out of the dressing room people all look at you and then it gets embarressing if it doesn't look good on you, YIKES. Anyways i think it is a buisness strategy the people who are all helping you that are right next to the dressing room, say that looks so fab on you and other chessy stuff to make you think that it really does look good on you, but then when you get home and try it on you wish you never bought it. So I guess my answear to the question is there is no way to stop this horrible and uncomforatable situation. E-mail me i have more insite on other fashion related things. So that we could trade our fashion knowledge! thanks bye bye

    I hate this too. Chico's does this. If I can't get into the handicap dressing room, the only one with a mirror, I leave the store. Saturday, 3 older ladies were fighting over this room!
  • I totally agree! I don't even want to try the clothing on if there is no mirror in the dressing room. It's a private decision - who needs the salesperson telling you look GREAT in something that you know you don't! Retail stores listen up - PUT MIRRORS IN THE DRESSING ROOMS!!!!!
