the wedge sneaker – a trend that escapes me

Leave a response ->

Is the sneaker wedge, in some odd way, the same as when peanut butter met chocolate? Am I missing some great combination, like the one that created the Reeses peanut butter cup? Although, chocolate and peanut butter I completely get. High heels on a sneaker… I simply don’t get it. I have tried very hard to understand the wedge sneaker, but have come up with nothing. I was under the impression that, for the most part, people wore sneakers for sport or comfort. Are the designers hoping it will be the most stylish and comfortable shoe out there? Or is it an attempt to be funky? And, is it funky? Or is it a shoe one of the slutty nurses at the nursing home would wear? And on that note, what nurse can afford Christian Louboutin? I would love feed back on this shoe, especially if you embrace the trend.

    I had a pair of "sneaker wedges" when I was in 7th grade. As the 2nd shortest girl in the 7th grade, I felt I NEEDED them. We called them high-heeled sneakers.

    By any name: yuck. What was I thinking?! I claim being 12 and it was the 80s as my excuses. And mine were lavender and gold. the gold was reflective.

    Better or worse than the high-heeled Timberland boot?!
  • Wow! Not sure which is worse. Well, hopefully your experience will help others to AVOID this trend. Thanks
  • oh my. I think strange combinations are often... well, just strange. Not appealing. Not interesting. Just strange - or actually, weird. And Ugly, one must not forget - because these sure are ugly!

    Elisas last blog post..The 80s are back - RUN!!

  • So then, how can a "shoe great" like Christian Louboutin be designing such a thing? Was a gun put to his head? Or is he completely off the mark?

    I think even the great geniuses have missteps.
  • I guess so. Ok, he's forgiven!
  • LOL, but the black ones are kind of cute. Although, I wouldn't wear them.

    The black sneakers would be perfect without the wedge as a cute sneaker. I think people invented them in the 80s and are trying to re-invent it which is going horribly wrong.
  • YES... horribly wrong!
