how much is too much to spend on a shoe?

Leave a response ->

These days it seems like the prices of high end designer shoes have jumped. A really nice shoe used to cost $500 to $600, now that is on the low end. The sweet spot, these days, for a designer shoe is $650 to $900. We’re wondering, is a designer shoe worth the high price? For example, if we showed you two shoes that looked basically the same, and told you that one was a Christian Louboutin and the other an Oh Deer! – which one would you want? Is the quality that much better in the designer shoe? Or is it just the name? What is it about shoes that causes us to throw caution to the wind and spend an insane amount of money? Well, there’s something so lovely about putting on an expensive pair of shoes.  Slipping into a pair of $1200 Chanel pumps can make you feel like Dorothy in her magic slippers. Why is that? I think it’s because it makes you feel like you’re worth it, and special enough to wear something so well crafted. I suppose that means I’m buying into exactly what luxury brands want me to, essentially I’m part of the problem. What’s a girl to do? I think many of us out there get the meaning behind Oscar Wilde when he said: ” I have a simple taste, only the best”. Hopefully, we won’t all go broke doing it. Happy shoe hunting!

    Spending money on nice pair of designer shoes seems well worth the investment. But as you point out, there are a lot of affordable options that may be just as nice and why should we buy into the luxury lifestyle? The most I have spent on a designer pair of shoes was $400 and to tell you the truth, they weren’t any more comfortable than a similar pair I bought for $75. I ended up returning the $400 pair because I really didn’t need them.

    It is nice to dream about wearing them though!

    I agree, you just have to be smart about it. I have the patent birkenstocks & I wouldn’t trade them for the Tory Burch ones. They are chic and comfy – perfect combo!

    I don’t understand spending $1200 on a pair of shoes. A purse, maybe. But shoes? I always end up scuffing shoes and I think I’d throw up if I scuffed a pair of shoes that expensive.

    However I rarely buy shoes at Payless or Target because they are rarely worth the cheap cost – they never fit proper and are uncomfortable. I generally spend between $50 and $150 on nicer shoes from Macy’s or Nordstrom. Seems to work fine. I’ve had some of my shoes for years and years and they are still working for me.

    I know, shoe prices are over the top these days. Although, I might consider a really expensive classic pair that would be around forever.
